EGD

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, also referred to as upper endoscopy, is an endoscopic procedure which uses a flexible tube with a light and camera at the end in order to examine the esophagus (food tube), stomach and first part of the small intestine.

This procedure is used to evaluate symptoms such as heartburn, gas and bloating, difficulty swallowing, weight loss and GI bleeding and can diagnose a range of gastroenterological conditions such as GERD, Barretts Esophagus, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease and malignancy. This procedure is performed by Dr. DeMeo and Dr. Hingorani at the 76th street ambulatory endoscopic surgery center, and requires sedation which is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist.
